Pont (Graham Laidler)

Newcastle-born Graham Laidler drew under the name Pont. His cartoons for Punch, particularly The British Character series, found comedy in the habits and behaviour of British life.

He died of polio on 23 November 1940, aged 32. A later account in The Spectator describes him helping to transport refugees from London in his car and links his infection to that work.
