Len Shackleton
Footballer and humourist

Len Shackleton spent the longest part of his senior football career at Sunderland. His flair, tricks and love of entertaining a crowd earned him the nickname “The Clown Prince of Football”, also known as “The Clown Prince of Soccer”.
His sense of humour reached the printed page too. His autobiography included a chapter titled “The Average Director’s Knowledge of Football”. The chapter was deliberately left blank.
