Jim Brownlow

Jim Brownlow was one of Viz's three founders, working alongside Chris and Simon Donald on the magazine's earliest issues in Newcastle. He created Paul Whicker the Tall Vicar and Rude Kid, two characters from its formative years.

Brownlow's interest in the magazine waned and he moved to Cardiff before its greatest commercial success. He is remembered as returning in the late 1990s with a new Tall Vicar strip. He died in 2019, remembered by Simon Donald as a pivotal figure in Viz's beginnings.
