John Gair “Jack” Robson was born in Annitsford and combined songwriting with a teaching career, later becoming a headmaster at Backworth and Shiremoor. An early story about his musical talent tells of a hymn he wrote at thirteen winning a competition.

His best-known dialect song is Whereivvor ye gan ye’re sure to find a Geordie. It sits alongside songs celebrating Northumbrian places and people, with some of his work reaching listeners through Wot Cheor Geordie.
