Phyllis Thompson
Comedy writer

Phyllis Thompson was Bobby Thompson’s wife and an important writer behind his comedy. Their son Keith credited her with most of Bobby’s jokes, remembering a partnership in which her wit was matched by his gift for comic delivery. In The Bobby Thompson Story, Keith put her contribution at about 90 per cent of the material.
Phyllis died in the 1960s. Photographs of her with Bobby survive in the documentary, alongside Keith’s recollections of the way his parents worked together.
