Ian Milne

Hebburn impressionist and comedian Ian Milne worked as an engineering draughtsman at Reyrolle. His performing talent took him to Wot Cheor Geordie, where his character Fauntleroy became part of the region’s radio comedy.

Admirers have pointed to an influence on Bobby Thompson’s Little Waster. Fauntleroy also invites comparison with Reg Smythe’s Andy Capp, another recognisably local comic character.

Milne died after an illness at just 26. He is said to have fallen ill on the eve of his wedding.
