Eli Woods

Stockton’s Eli Woods, affectionately known as “Our Eli”, was the stooge and sidekick in the act of his uncle, Jimmy James. His stammer became part of his distinctive comic delivery during a long performing career.

A memorable later appearance came at the 1982 Royal Variety Performance, when he joined Jim Casey and Roy Castle to revive the elephant-in-a-box sketch. It brought a favourite piece of the old variety act to a new television audience.
