Eric Boswell
Songwriter and musical director
Eric Boswell’s songwriting career ranged from the popular-song publishing world of Britain’s Tin Pan Alley to humorous songs about North East life. He was musical director of Geordierama, helping bring regional songs, comedians and musicians to radio and the annual Newcastle City Hall shows.
His song Welcome to Geordieland is remembered in accounts of his career as a commission to welcome US President Jimmy Carter to the region. Beyond his regional work, Boswell’s most widely known composition is the Christmas song Little Donkey.
