Berwick Kaler

Berwick Kaler came from Sunderland and worked as an actor on stage and television, including an appearance in Spender. In York, he became especially associated with pantomime, playing the Theatre Royal’s dame for around 40 years.

He retired from performing in the theatre’s pantomime in February 2019, but continued to write and co-direct that year’s Sleeping Beauty. A public disagreement and the split with the theatre followed in 2020.
