Wendy Craig

Wendy Craig was born in Sacriston and attended Durham High School for Girls. The school later named a building in her honour, which she opened in October 2007.

Her television career was already under way in the 1950s, with a credit in Mr. Kettle and Mrs. Moon in 1955. She went on to star in a succession of sitcoms, with Ria in Butterflies becoming one of her most familiar roles.
