Mike Neville

Mike Neville was a familiar North East newsreader whose humour also reached audiences beyond the newsroom. With George House, he performed Geordie sketches and dialect material associated with Larn Yersel Geordie, and he helped present the Geordierama stage shows.

His television image also left a trace in Viz. The character Roger Mellie began after Chris Donald overheard broadcaster Rod Griffith swearing in a bar, while Neville’s physical stature helped shape the cartoon presenter’s appearance.
