Hall and Coates
Comedy double act and radio writers
Geoff Coates and Stan Hall wrote and performed together as Hall and Coates. Family recollections describe their Slaty Drift scripts being performed at Newcastle churches before the show also appeared on Metro Radio.
The pair are remembered as coming from Newcastle's West End, taking stories of the fictional mining village Slaty Drift around Methodist halls. The radio version is associated with Metro's early days. Geoff is also said to be the uncle of stand-up comedian Jack Gardner.
