Gordon Peters

Gordon Peters was born in Shildon, the son of a butcher and a piano teacher. A talent contest helped turn his performing ambitions into a career while he was working in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. He won an initial round and progressed to a grand final in Johannesburg, where he finished as a runner-up.

He became a familiar presence in television comedy, with appearances in Dad's Army, Are You Being Served?, Hi-de-Hi! and One Foot in the Grave. In 1973 he also starred in his own BBC One series, The Gordon Peters Show, which ran for five episodes.
