Edward Elliott
Songwriter and temperance speaker

Edward Elliott was a singer, comic storyteller and supporter of the temperance movement, closely associated with Earsdon. Biographical accounts describe a struggle with drink early in his life, which became part of the experience he drew on in his campaigning.
His stories mixed pathos with sudden bursts of laughter. Accounts of his performances also describe how deliberately he kept his broad local accent, believing it added to the humour. He was buried at Earsdon in 1867.
