Coral Drouyn grew up in a family of music-hall and variety performers. Her parents were entertainers, and her maternal grandparents performed as Haig and Esco. She is said to have spent part of her school years in Gosforth.

She moved to Australia in the 1960s and wrote comedy for her father Terry O’Neill’s variety programme, Time for Terry, in which she also performed. Her later television career included writing and senior story or script roles on Prisoner and Home and Away, making her an important figure behind some of Australia’s best-known serials.
