Captain Walter Diericx
Writer and dialect performer

Captain Walter Diericx wrote and performed the dialect dialogues of Geordie and Jennie Marley. Geordie Marley became a familiar radio character, bringing the language and humour of the North East to BBC listeners.
A Blaydon Races sketch broadcast on 9 June 1937 helped establish the approach later associated with Wot Cheor Geordie. The series followed in the early 1940s, drawing on a growing tradition of comedy written for the region’s radio audience.
